visitors welcome to Beaupre
swarm, Beaupre Bryn Mawr
Our apiary grows through natural swarming. We believe it is vital for this process to occur, as it does in nature. When a hive swarms, the old queen abconds from the hive with up to half of the colony in attendance. She leaves the established colony with a new queen, raised by the bees naturally. Bees can swarm for a number of reasons, one being that there is simply not enough room in the hive for the colony to grow, so like a cell it splits. There are other reasons hives may swarm as well, involving more subtle influences.

We remove honey bee swarms in the Philadelphia area
Do you or anyone you know have a swarm of honey bees in your yard or garage? If you do, call Beaupre Apiary for swarm removal services. We only remove honeybees( not wasps or mason bees ect) and we do not kill bees as a solution to an infestation. If you have a swarm from april untill early june, we can most likely remove it effectively. Call as soon as you notice the swarm.

At Beaupre Apiary and Gardens, we practice sustainable harvesting when it comes to our bees. We only harvest honey at specific times of the season, when there is an over abundance of honey and it may be beneficial to the colony. This usually is in the spring. We do not harvest in late summer (past july 20) or fall to ensure the bees have plenty of honey stored for winter. We do not move our bees to other locations for nectar flows, we believe this activity is stressful on the colony.

Our apiary focuses on natural comb building. We belive the bee's build the best
comb themselves. Natural comb, built 100% by the bees is always chemical free and
it is the best way to combat varroa mites ( a pest that plagues bees and beekeepers alike). It is important that the bees build their cell size
around 4.9mm to produce smaller, healthier bees that can defend themselves from varroa mites.
Each time you support this apiary, you contribute to the sustainable, healthy, future of the honey bees.
The bees need all the help and attention they can get, and by viewing this site, purchasing the honey and planting bee friendly flowers and trees, you can be a big part of the solution.

By offering the bees a diverse selection of flowers and trees to collect pollen, nectar, and propolis from, we aim to insure nutritional diversity to the bees diet. Some plants like thyme are used to combat natural predators within the hive, like varroa mites. Pants like cammomile are used to sooth digestive issues with the bees like Nosema.

Beaupre Apiary and Gardens President Ryan Williamson at Bryn Mawr Pa apiary,
inspects honeybees making fresh 100% organic comb.
It takes an incredible amount of ingested honey to produce the wafer like flakes of wax the bees excreate to create their "outer womb" or comb. The combs serve as a both nursery and food storage area. The queen lays here eggs in the comb, where they will be nurtured and raised into bees with different jobs in the hive.

Beaupre Apiary and Gardens is commited to gardening organically with biodynamic influences( like when is the best time of the season to plant seeds). We believe it is important to be involved, in a posotive way, with our local communities, bringing knowledge of organic gardening and beekeeping to individuals and families who show interest and who may not otherwise have the opportunty to
experience honey bees or gardening .

cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, purple beans, beets, lettuce, chard, soy beans, pumpkin and more.
we try to companion plant, and diversify.

Flowers bring pollenators to the garden. Pollinators can be honey bees, bumble bees, humming birds, ants
and lots more insects that fly and crawl.
